Alec Baldwin was removed from an American Airlines flight to NYC from LA yesterday afternoon. His offense? Words With Friends. The plane was returned to the gate so the star could be escorted from the plane, which delayed the plane for an hour.
Anyone who has ever flown on a commercial flight knows to shut off those electronics for a bit until the flight attendants say it’s ok. Baldwin just couldn’t put down the Words With Friends for a bit, and he walked off a flight for it.
Twitter blew up Tuesday afternoon with tweets and retweets of the incident. Baldwin tweeted a few thoughts of his own regarding his treatment.
“”Flight attendant on American reamed me out 4 playing WORDS W FRIENDS while we sat at the gate, not moving. #nowonderamericanairisbankrupt,” he tweeted, but he didn’t stop there.
He continued with at least 4 other tweets, including, “Last flight w American. Where retire Catholic school gym teachers from the 1950’s find jobs as flight attendants.”
Baldwin eventually boarded a later flight to NYC, but the damage was done.
American, in the midst of its own nightmare of Chapter 11 bankruptcy, won’t comment on the incident. However, in an effort to save a little face and a high profile customer, American reps tweeted, “Mr. Baldwin, we are looking this. Please DM us contact information.”
E! Online‘s Marc Malkin had this commentary on the story, “Somewhere Tina Fey is writing that [30 Rock] script now.”
