Brenda Lee‘s “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” is the next Christmas classic to get the Last.fm Trends treatment.

Released on the legendary Decca Records in 1958, the song has been covered by several modern pop stars and groups – keeping the song alive for years to come.

Last.fm Trends looks at the track and how it has been scrobbled.

Brenda Lee found fame in the 1950s and 1960s and is one of the most successful female singers of all time. “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” became a hit in 1960 after moderate success with the release of the track in both 1958 and 1959.

The track has been scrobbled well over 500,000 times, with over 8,000 listeners last week alone, as Last.fm users began to get in the festive spirit.

In addition, a cover by indie-folk duo She & Him was listened to by an impressive 4,933 listeners last week, while in contrast, ’90s boy band Hanson‘s cover of the track was listened to by just 221 listeners.

In almost identical fashion to yesterday’s graph for “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”, the track is seeing its scrobbles rise every Christmas – from around 7,000 in 2006 to nearly 38,000 in 2010.
