Kimberly Schlegel Whitman’s son, JR, is learning about the concepts of “yesterday,” “today,” and “tomorrow.” As he was looking at a picture of himself on her iPhone, he said, look at this picture of me from tomorrow. Young ones learning these concepts sometimes need a little visual help.
Advent calendars are great for counting down to Christmas, but that’s not the only way to count down to special days. You can make a colorful paper loop chain to count the days until a special birthday or holiday.
Just like the paper loop garlands you make for Christmas, cut some colorful paper in to strips. Loop them together and secure with a stapler or glue stick. You can add one for each day until the special day arrives. As you add each one, ask your child about which loop is from which day.
As a fun twist, you can have your child write a special wish or memory on the loop before adding it to the chain.
