Fall Back In Time This Weekend

Here’s another reminder to change your clocks this weekend. We fall back through time one hour. It’s probably the closest we will ever come to time travel. In honor of the time change, here is a collection of “time” related pop culture to fill your extra hour of time.

There are songs about time. Time and time travel are popular themes in television and movies. Since we’ll all have an extra hour to kill this weekend, have a look at some favorite pop culture gems traveling through time.

1. “Back in Time” by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Huey Lewis & The News[/lastfm] from Back To The Future (1985)

What is time travel without Marty McFly and the DeLorean? In 1985, we fell through time along with McFly and Doc Brown to 1955. Huey Lewis provided the perfect soundtrack to roll back the clock to in the song “Back In Time.”

2. “If I Could Turn Back Time” by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Cher[/lastfm]

Nothing says rolling back the clock like Cher’s hit song. If you could turn back time, who would you give your extra hour to?

3. Land of The Lost

Land of the Lost was popular Saturday morning TV show in the mid 70s. It also had a popular remake in the 90s. Will Ferrell also took a trip to the Land of the Lost in the 2009 movie. Any way you look at it, 3 generations have grown up living in the Land of the Lost following the adventures of 3 people trapped in a world of dinosaurs and triple moons.

4. “Time After Time” by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Cyndi Lauper[/lastfm]

Another classic hit about time. A fun fact about the song: The line “the second hand unwinds” is a reference to the watch of producer Rick Chertoff, which ran backwards. Who doesn’t love how the song ends with Cyndi whispering “time after time”?

5. Timeline (2003)

Super-hunk Gerard Butler and Paul Walker fall through time in this sci-fi adventure. They and a team of archeologists find themselves in 14th century France in the midst of a war with the English. Their mission is to rescue a colleague.

6. “Time” by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Pink Floyd[/lastfm]

It’s hard not to pass up this classic song about time. Pink Floyd’s tune about time slipping through your hands  might help you to ponder what you will do to “tick away the moments” during your extra hour.

7. Quantum Leap

You can’t think time travel without thinking of Scott Bakula leaping through time in this timeless television show. If you never saw this gem, the show follows Dr. Sam Beckett’s journey through time as he inhabits the lives of different people in different periods of time. An episode or two of this would be a great way to spend your extra hour this weekend.

8. “Clocks” by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Coldplay[/lastfm]

Even Coldplay wants to remind you to turn back your “ticking clocks” this weekend.

9. Doctor Who

Another classic television show about time travel. The story follows The Doctor and his companions as they travel through time and space. Generations of British children grew up hiding behind their sofas watching Doctor Who, which began in 1963 and ran until 1989. The current rebooted series is gaining popularity in the States on BBC America.

10. The Time Machine (2002)

There are two movies based on the classic novel by H.G. Wells. Most recently, the 2002 adventure film starting Guy Pearce who plays a scientist who builds a time machine to save the woman he loves from her death but finds himself, instead, thrown into an adventure in time. However, you still can’t forget the classic 1960 original.

11. “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is” by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Chicago[/lastfm]

The transition from Daylight Savings Time to Standard Time always causes confusion for a few days at least. In this timeless tune by Chicago, it seems as if time isn’t a big priority to them.

12. Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989)

This most righteous film bought us Keanu Reeves as Ted in another classic 80s time bending adventure. Bill & Ted travel through time in a phone booth collecting historical figures for a school project.

13. “Time Is On My Side” by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Rolling Stones[/lastfm]

With an extra hour to play around with this weekend, time really is on your side just like The Rolling Stones. Time has been on their side since The Stones covered this timeless tune in 1964.
