The McRib is McBack
It’s like the unicorn of McDonald’s sandwiches. The fabled McRib is making a return. Introduced to the world in 1982, the boneless barbecued pork sandwich is usually only available in a handful of stores at a time, and it hasn’t sold nationally since 1994. However, the overwhelming response from it’s reappearance for 3 weeks last November has inspired the folks at McDonald’s to bring it back nationally until November 14th.
The McRib has such a cult following that people are willing to do anything, including travel, for a sandwich. Jenny McCarthy used a website dedicated to tracking the McRib to locate a sandwich near her.
Alan Klein, a Minneapolis meteorologist and the creator of the website, has seen the ripples of the McRib’s return through the traffic on his website. Hits skyrocketed from 150 a day to 4,000 as people reported sightings. He’s even receiving photos of the variations, some sandwiches with lettuce, some with bacon, and some triple stacked.
The popularity of the McRib is so enormous, wouldn’t you think the McDonald’s folks would bring it back all the time? Not so. ”Bringing it back every so often adds to the excitement,” said Marta Fearon, McDonald’s U.S. marketing director.
After November 14th, the McRib will return to it’s mythical creature status, so hurry up and get your own before it’s gone!
