Father and son, Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez are on the road toegether promoting their new film, “The Way.” Both are well-known for their impressive resumes. Sheen has played presidents and soldiers, Estevez has played Brat Pack hearthrobs and a hockey coach. Their newest project puts Estevez behind the camera directing his father.
“It doesn’t get any better,” Martin Sheen says of his son, Emilio, directing him in the film “The Way.”
Emilio Estevez wrote and directed the new film that releases today. The story is about a California doctor who travels to France to collect the remains of his son who perished in a storm while trekking the Camino de Santiago, a 800km footpath that stretches from Pyrenees at the Spanish-French border westward towards the Spanish Atlantic coast. The doctor is inspired to complete the journey in his son’s honor.
It’s a witty film, with poignant and sometimes funny moments. It could be to Emilio’s career what “Dancing With Wolves” was for Kevin Costner. Martin Sheen enjoyed the experience of being directed by his son in a role scripted with him in mind.
Never far from their minds is Charlie Sheen, who has shown his support of the film by appearing at the red carpet premier and tweeting about the film to his 5 million followers. Emilio also has a twitter account, you can find him at @EmilioTheWay.
“The Way” is in theaters today.
