The day has finally arrived. The gates open at 10AM. The air will fill with the smell of funnel cakes, Fletcher’s corny dogs, and Abel Gonzalez’s Deep Fried Pineapple Upside Down Cake. The Midway will whir to life, and the dings and chimes of games will sound. It’s State Fair of Texas time!
It’s the best time of year in Texas, and this year is will be just as amazing as it is every year! Today’s Opening day parade kicks off at 12 noon at Main St and Houston, and it will wrap up at Main St and Good Latimer. Get out there soon to get a good spot! If you miss it today, catch the parade every night at 7:15PM at Fair Park.

Broadway favorite West Side Story will be open during the State Fair this year. What could be a better way to sit down in air conditioning than to see a classic musical presented by Dallas Summer Musicals!
The State Fair of Texas is definitely the place to get your grub on. Check out the 2011 BIG TEX CHOICE® AWARD winner for Best Taste, Buffalo Chicken in a Flapjack. You should also look out for the winner for Most Creative, Fried Bubblegum. As always, Abel Gonzalez will have his fried favorites. Look for his Deep Fried Pineapple Upside Down Cake and well as his fried butter, fried peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and fried cookie dough.
