Happy Birthday El Fenix!! It all started on the corner of Griffin Ave and McKinney Ave in 1918, where the original restaurant still stands and is still serving up some of the best Tex-Mex in town. It was one of the first “Mexican” restaurants in Texas, and to celebrate 93 years of history, they have a very special offer for today only!
The history of the Martinez family’s restaurant is fascinating. Miguel Martinez moved to Dallas a year after the onset of the Mexican Revolution. It wasn’t long before he fell in love and married, and soon after opened his own restaurant. In 1918, El Fenix was born and found it’s place in the heart of Dallas.
It became known as the place to be in Dallas. In the 1930s, big bands and their leaders, such as [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Glenn Miller[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Kay Kaiser[/lastfm], would come to El Fenix for dinner and drinks after their sets wrapped at the Adolphus and Baker Hotels. El Fenix now has 21 locations around town, including a new location soon to open in Wichita Falls.
To mark it’s 93rd birthday, the downtown location of El Fenix is offering 93-cent enchiladas for today only! This fabulous deal is sure to make it a favorite come lunch time today, so you’ll want to get down there early or call ahead.
If you need any proof of just how good the food is at El Fenix, just have a look at this little cutie who adores the refried beans.
