It’s always major news when a major band releases a new album. Especially when that band has sold over 50 million albums worldwide, won 7 Grammys and 6 Brit Awards. On October 24th [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Coldplay[/lastfm] will release their new album, “Mylo Xyloto.” And before you jump to conclusions, it’s not the name of Chris Martin’s latest baby with wife [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Gwyneth Paltrow[/lastfm].
The band’s original name was “Pectoralz,” then became “Starfish” before settling on Coldplay in 1998. They’re currently on a World Tour, taking them to Austin City Limits this Friday night (9/16), then eventually to South Africa. They’ll also stop by the Ed Sullivan Theater next Tuesday for a special performance of “Live on Letterman.”

The members of Coldplay run the band like a democracy (everybody gets credit and shares profits equally); which was inspired by [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]U2[/lastfm] and[lastfm link_type="artist_info"] R.E.M.[/lastfm] Even though the album isn’t out until October, demand has been so high that the second single “Paradise,” is already on the streets.
