New [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Coldplay[/lastfm] album Mylo Xyloto features a very special guest. Chris Martin has revealed that one of the tracks will be a duet with himself and pop princess [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Rihanna[/lastfm].
The band collaborated with the “Only Girl (In the World)” singer on the song “Princess of China,” which based on its late-ish position in the album could be some kind of lovesick lullaby.
Martin admitted in an interview with The Sun in the U.K. that he was a bit nervous approaching Rihanna to work with them on the album, which according to him will have its own self-contained narrative.
“The album is designed as a whole piece. It has boy and girl lead characters and top of our list for the girl part was Rihanna,” he said. “But it took a while to pluck up the courage to ask her.”
It’s amazing to think that someone who’s married to Gwyneth Paltrow and heads one of the biggest bands in the world would be reduced to a bumbling idiot when talking to Rihanna. Says a lot about her mere presence in the room! Hopefully he wasn’t nervous in the studio when they sang together.
We’re looking forward to hearing this unique vocal combination on the finished product! Pick up Mylo Xyloto October 25 via Capitol Records.
