Willie Nelson Covers Coldplay’s “The Scientist”

One of the most popular modern arena rock bands from the United Kingdom,[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] Coldplay[/lastfm], will perform an exclusive Live on Letterman concert that you can watch right here.

The band has more than a decade’s worth of popular singles, but one of their most poignant is “The Scientist” from A Rush of Blood to the Head. Now, iconic country legend [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Willie Nelson[/lastfm] has covered that track, as a statement against industrial farming.

The song utilizes Coldplay’s ingenious melody writing with Nelson’s warm, reflective baritone. Proceeds go to the Chipotle Cultivate Foundation which works towards developing a sustainable food system.

Here’s the info behind the emotional cartoon music video:

Coldplay’s haunting classic ‘The Scientist’ is performed by country music legend Willie Nelson for the soundtrack of the short film entitled, “Back to the Start.” The film, by film-maker Johnny Kelly, depicts the life of a farmer as he slowly turns his family farm into an industrial animal factory before seeing the errors of his ways and opting for a more sustainable future.

Both the film and the soundtrack were commissioned by Chipotle to emphasize the importance of developing a sustainable food system.

You can download “The Scientist” by Willie Nelson on iTunes with label and artist proceeds benefit The Chipotle Cultivate Foundation.
