The Van Dyke Brothers Are Bringing Sunshine To Dallas
The beloved Dick Van Dyke and his younger brother Jerry will be coming to North Texas soon to star in Neil Simon’s The Sunshine Boys. The brothers, 85 and 80, play bad-tempered ex-vaudevillians who end a 40-year feud to appear on TV on last time.
The Sunshine Boys will be the first time Dick and Jerry have appeared on stage together. Of course, Dick is remembered for his roles in Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and more recently Diagnosis: Murder. Jerry played Dick’s younger brother Stacy on The Dick Van Dyke Show, as well as Craig T. Nelson’s assistant coach on the sitcom Coach.
Dick Van Dyke still remembers all the words to the songs he sang in Mary Poppins. He even sang a little “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” with Julie this morning on the show.
The Sunshine Boys will be coming to town September 8 and 9 at the Eisemann Center in Richardson and September 10 at Casa Mañana in Fort Worth. Proceeds from both shows will benefit local children’s hospital charities. The Eisemann shows will go towards the Children’s Cancer Fund of Dallas, and the Fort Worth show will benefit Cook Children’s Hospital.
