Everyone calm down, Bono’s perfectly fine. The internet was abuzz this past weekend about the [lastfm]U2[/lastfm] frontman’s visit to a French hospital Sunday, with many sources citing his “heart palpitations” as the reason for his admission. But like most stories crafted from the online rumor mill, there’s only a little bit of truth and a lot of exaggeration and speculation.

Yes, Bono visited the hospital on Sunday, but it was only for a routine checkup, which isn’t anything out of the ordinary for a 51 year old man. In a statement to Reuters, Bono’s spokeswoman said that there was no emergency treatment as some sources claimed, and that the rocker is in “good health.” He left the hospital that day and is currently enjoying a holiday with family and friends in the south of France.

Bono and his trademark sunglasses certainly deserve a break after finishing up the last leg of the U2 360 Tour, which currently holds the record for both the highest grossing and most attended concert tour.
