When 11-yr-old Caroline Gonzalez won the chance to be Forney mayor-for-a-day, she had a plan to honor her favorite pop singer. Since she changed a part of Main Street to Justin Bieber Way, the story has gone viral worldwide. There is only person who hasn’t said a word.
Calls have coming in from across the nation. The Houston Chronicle, E! News, and the Huffington Post have all picked up the story. Papers in London, India, and Ireland are all talking about Forney, Texas. All about a street sign that cost the city of Forney about $32, and all thanks to the young mayor-for-a-day, Caroline Gonzalez.
Caroline’s father submitted the winning essay, highlighting his daughter’s activity in student council, recycling programs, and community service projects, to a contest designed to rally young people’s interest in city government. What he didn’t mention was his daughter is a huge [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Justin Bieber[/lastfm] fan.
One of Caroline’s first requests while “in office” was to rename a portion of Main Street as Justin Bieber Way. The city public works department humored the request an made a temporary street sign, and on Tuesday, the city held a ceremony to install the sign on Main Street. Unfortunately, city officials were unable to reach Justin Bieber to invite him to the ceremony honoring him.
The cost to make the sign was $32, but the worldwide publicity for Forney, Texas is priceless thanks to Caroline Gonzalez.
