The one and only [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Katy Perry[/lastfm] has already thrown down the powers of [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Lady Gaga[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Justin Timberlake[/lastfm] and now has her sights set on the King of Pop.
Katy’s latest single “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F)” marks the 5th single from her “Teenage Dream” album that has risen to the top of Billboards Pop chart. No other artist has ever had five singles from one album top the pop chart. Lady Gaga and Justin Timberlake both had 4 from one album reach the top of the chart, which has only been around for just over a decade.
“Last Friday Night” currently sits at number 2 on the historic Hot 100 chart, right behind [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]LMFAO[/lastfm]‘s “Party Rock Anthem“. But already having “California Gurls“, “Teenage Dream“, “ET” and “Fireworks” top the Hot 100, eclipsing LAFMO would put the singer in elite company. Only [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Michael Jackson[/lastfm]‘s Bad album has ever put 5 singles on top of the Hot 100.
If Perry ascends to the top, and all signs point to that she will surpass “Party Rock Anthem” later this week, can she be dubbed “The Queen of Pop”?
