Dear Steve Martin, your Saturday Night Live record has just been broken. Alec Baldwin is scheduled to host the season premiere for the 16th time in September.

On September 24th, Alec Baldwin dances past Steve Martin’s record. Both gentlemen have become memorable, yet unofficial, fixtures in the show’s history. Neither have ever been official cast members, but they both have Best Of… DVDs.

Martin, who has hosted SNL 15 times since October 23, 1976, is best remembered for his King Tut routine. Baldwin’s first appearance was April 21, 1990 and he too has had several memorable characters and skits, including “Schweddy Balls.”

Alec Baldwin’s record-breaking appearance will be for the premiere of Saturday Night Live’s 37th season.   Mike & Molly and Bridesmaids star Melissa McCarthy will host the second episode of the season.

John Goodman, Tom Hanks, and Christopher Walken are among the most repeated SNL hosts, according to Digital Bus Stop, but they still have a ways to go before touching the record.
