From slim-fitting pencil skirts to super-tight skinny jeans, fashion these days seems to be more body conscious than ever and, ironically, on the extreme end of the bell curve. Actually, curve is the right word: the average American woman is sensual and curvy rather than flat and sleek like the figure of typical models and many celebrities.
Thankfully, the fashion industry is slowing changing its strict sizist rules. While we are waiting for the modern, diet-obsessed world to catch up with the curvy girl, we still have plenty of options–like tweaking styles for the overly-skinny girl into gorgeous looks appropriate for the real girl.
Our Get Real! fashion inspiration this week is Kate Middleton. Want her preppy princess look? We’ve found the Get Real! version of four of her fabulous looks.
Look: Red-Hot & Refined
Kate Middleton looks red-hot but refined in this stunning suit. We modernized the look a little, making it less stuffy and more playful ’60s secretary.
A shell top rather than a blazer is perfect for the hot summer months, but the look is still dressed up and girlie with heart-shaped diamond stud earrings, a leaf brooch from Tiffany & Co, some sophisticated, leg lengthening nude Christian Louboutins, and a nude snake-skin clutch.
