On March 11, 2011 [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Patti Labelle[/lastfm] was at Bush International Airport in Houston, Texas when her staff punched Richard King, a 23-year-old West Point Cadet, and shoved his head into a concrete column. King suffered a concussion and was suspended from the Military Academy.
According to the Houston Chronicle King is suing LaBelle claiming she ordered her bodyguard to attack because she felt he was standing too close to her luggage. He is seeking actual and punitive damages.
Now Labelle is counter suing claiming King was cursing at her and using racially and sexually offensive language and trying to force his way into her car. She also claims King punched her son in the face.
The strange thing is the event was caught on film by a security camera. While the Houston Chronicle reports that King occasionally stepped out of the frame and there is no audio, it does not appear that King was physically provoking anyone at the time of the assault, infact it appears he was holding a cellphone up to his ear when first struck.
After the attack King is seen trying desperately to stand up multiple times before someone helps him. He is then assisted by paramedics and Patti LaBelle is seen taking photos with a police officer a few feet from King’s blood on the sidewalk.
What I don’t understand is how someone was not immediately arrested for this incident whether it was provoked or not.
Warning this video is disturbing…
