Spy Kids 4 In 4-D
3-D is so last year.
For his upcoming film Spy Kids 4: All The Time In The World, director Robert Rodriguez is taking movies to the next level by adding smell to the movie-watching experience.
Spy Kids 4 is not the first time that the sense of smell has been tried in theater. Smell-O-Vision and AromaRama were tried in the 1950’s, and John Waters even attempted it in the 80’s.
Robert Rodriguez has created Aromascope, a card that has various smell on it to be passed at both 2-D and 3-D versions on the film. It works similar to touch-screen smart phones where you slide your finger over the scent. Don’t worry if this sounds confusing– a tutorial voiced by funnyman Ricky Gervais will take you through how to use the “scent-sational” device before the film.
Spy Kids 4: All The Time In The World, starring Jessica Alba and Joel McHale, is out in theaters August 19th:
