Cheryl Cole may not be a household name in the US yet, but  she’s working on it.

Back in Britain she’s a big deal, having been a member of the girl group [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Girls Aloud[/lastfm], and scoring twenty consecutive top ten singles. She’s also the eye-candy on the X-Factor judges panel, first in Britain, now on the American version.

As it turns out Cole is pretty determined to join the ranks of Hollywood elite, even if it means letting producers control her personal life.

For the last year, Cole has been dating Dancing with the Stars dancer Derek Hough. According to PopEater.com, X-Factor producers think that Cheryl will be better suited to wooing America over if she dumps her squeaky-clean dancer boyfriend and hits the L.A. scene as a single lady.

Her personal life isn’t the only thing getting a makeover. Apparently, producers have also set her up with a new stylist and a fitness guru to help her lose weight – basically they’re completely making the girl over.

You gotta feel bad for Derek, but something tells me there are dance show groupies waiting in the wings to take Cheryl’s place.
