Bob Seger has a spring North American tour launching tomorrow, and a new album just about ready for release. He recently said the album and tour will be “different” from just about everything else he’s done in his career.
Seger talked to Billboard.com about the new album, which still doesn’t have a title or release date but is expected to arrive sometime this summer. He made a concerted effort to make something completely fresh for him.
“There isn’t a song on it quite like anything I’ve done before,” said Seger. “I’m really making an effort to break new ground on it, that’s the best I can say – different feels, different speeds, different approaches to the stuff I do. It’s just…different, you know?”
Seger also said the upcoming tour will be very different from the last one. He is aiming to play a bunch of songs that the audience wouldn’t expect.
“That’s the fun for me is changing the show a little bit,” he said. “We’re just trying to surprise some people who will say, ‘Oh, wow, I forgot he did that.’”
Even so, fans can probably still expect staples like “Turn the Page” to be a part of the show. It wouldn’t quite be the same without it.
