So I am driving into work this morning and was blown away when I saw what the guy driving next to me was doing.
I like the next person am guilty or have been guilty of doing something while driving that could and should probably wait and believe it or not the world would continue to turn.
But this morning on my way in I was totally dumbfounded.
I noticed as I was cruising down the service road of the Tollway heading into the station, the guy next to me who seemed to be a little all over the road.
Had it been in the afternoon or early evening my first thought would have been he might have had a few drinks.
Which reminds me of the time a few weeks ago I was on my way in about 8 a.m. and saw a Trooper giving a lady a sobriety test on the shoulder. Yes at around 8 a.m.
Sorry, A.D.D. is kicking in.
So this morning this guy is all over the place and I looked and couldn’t quite figure out what it was that was distracting him but it was something.
To avoid me driving like a fool, I ignored it until we came to a stop at a red light and I had the chance to do a little more investigating.
Believe it or not, this guy was driving in rush hour, surrounded by cars and are you ready for this, READING THE NEWSPAPER.
He had the full newspaper, spread across his lap and was looking down and up and down and up checking up on the latest news. ARE YOU SERIOUS? This really shocked me.
Here is my little piece of advice that came from this incident, and I know [lastfm]Oprah [/lastfm]has been pushing this for sometime, but I am also going to do my part to be better at avoiding distractions while driving, but let’s all “Just Drive”!
Text messaging is quickly becoming the # 1 cause of fatal accidents across the country.
Don’t believe me? [lastfm]Heidi Montage [/lastfm]who recently had 10 plastic procedures done and now is thinking of having a “reduction” can’t have her original surgeon redo the work, because he was texting while driving in CA a few weeks ago and drove off a cliff and died.
It’s SERIOUS stuff!
Here is a list of the TOP Driving Distractions that we should all vow to avoid and “Just Drive”-
- Applying Make-up
- Reading (Hello to the man in the mini-van next to me this morning)
- Talking on the phone (use a hands free device, it’s illegal in CA period, unless it’s hands free. I almost found out the hard way).
- Petting Animals in the car with you
- Watching Movies
- Accessing the Internet
Surely that eyeliner, or beard trim or “what do you want for dinner” text reply can wait a few more minutes.
It’s worth your life isn’t it?
Have a great day!
