Christina Hendricks: Still Affected By Negative Comments, Still Beautiful
Esquire Magazine named 35-year-old Christina Hendricks their “Most Beautiful Woman” and rightly so: Hendricks evokes an old-school Hollywood glamor that is direly missing among the waif-ish teen icons of today.
However, after internet bullies dragged Hendricks’ womanly curves down to vicious levels, she is still extra-sensitive “despite all the wonderful positivity.”
Read more on what Christina Hendricks has to say about her curvy body, other people’s opinions of it, and ultimately, how she feels being both praised and prodded for her figure.
Christina Hendricks is best known for her portrayal as Mad Men‘s 1960s sexy secretary, Joan Holloway. The show takes place in a time when curves were revered, not reviled. Internet bloggers of today have given themselves too much license to be snarky bullies about other people’s bodies, including that of Hendricks. She says of that public scrutiny:
“I still remember all those negative comments, despite all the wonderful positivity. That’s why we’re all in therapy! [We remember] the 10 bad things that happen to us instead of the 100 nice ones.”
After spending her youth as a dancer and a model, it makes sense that Christina Hendricks is especially affected by negative comments, even though her love of Italian goodies could never make her want to lose the extra weight they cause:
“Back when I was modeling, the first time I went to Italy I was having cappuccinos every day, and I gained 15 pounds. And I felt gorgeous! And I never tried to lose it, ’cause I loved it.”
Her famous (and infamous) figure is not self-maintanable and if anything, Hendricks’ gym routine is indicative that she is a model of health, not just of being bigger than the average Hollywood starlet:
“I’ve really had to train myself to get down to the gym. But what surprised me was that my husband said [the other day], ‘I’m going down to work out,’ and I was like, ‘Oh, I wish I was going.’ My friends will read this and be like, ‘No you didn’t.’ But it’s true!”
Christina Hendricks and everything she represents gets our admiration. In our eyes, she is one of the most stunning women in entertainment. We love this tribute to Mad Men‘s Joan accompanied by the classic steamy lounge song, “Fever.”
